Collections


The Museum in Kwidzyn, acting as a regional museum, has been collecting, preserving, elaborating and exhibiting objects of cultural and natural heritage related to Powiśle since 1950. Currently, it has approximately 5,000 objects collections divided into collections:

– works of art: porcelain dishes from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, glassware from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, portrait of a Man with a Skull (17th century), alabaster bas-relief “The Holy Family resting during the flight to Egypt” (1683), bas-relief The Assassination Abel,
– numismatics: coins from the 14th-20th centuries, 17th- and 18th-century Prussian coins, 19th-century Russian and French coins,
– artistic craftsmanship: an oak chest covered with strips of iron sheet (14th century), an inlaid table with a marble top (1648), two 18th-century armchairs, 17th and 18th-century lock mechanisms, 18th-century candlesticks and chandeliers, a Renaissance portal (1612)
– archaeological finds: ceramic vessels, flint hammers, hoes, grinders and querns from the Stone Age, a hammer made of deer antlers, richly decorated bone combs, La Tène brooches, amber beads
– ethnographic collections: a two-door wardrobe (1789), an inlaid chest (1802), a chair for a spinner (1804), wooden matrices, a sign of the guild of drapers and sheep shearers (16th century), gingerbread molds (16th-19th century)
nature collections:
– fauna: a collection of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, a collection of eggs of domestic birds,
– paleontological: among others cetacean bones extracted from the Vistula river bed, the best preserved aurochs skull in the country with an incomplete skeleton, a mammoth tooth, a Hadrosaurus egg;
– botanical: over 700 cards, including J. Peil’s herbal collection from 1867-1915.
